My name is Halle Craig and I have been on a strict diet of bass, bass and more bass for several years! I grew up in Lewis Center, playing upright bass in the orchestras of the Olentangy school district since the 4th grade. In middle school, I joined a community orchestra made up of Black youth called Urban Strings Columbus. Growing up in this orchestra truly instilled a love of music, it’s seemingly endless list of genres and cultures, as well as community enrichment. Playing in Urban Strings exposed me to several genres of music including jazz, classical, gospel, R&B, funk and pop.
I graduated from Otterbein University in 2020 with a BA in Music, Jazz Studies Concentration degree. Since graduating college I have been teaching privately and have become an Assistant Director for Urban Strings, coproducing their first major album in collaboration with the Bobby Floyd Trio.
As a teacher, my goal is to help my students to realize the joy of making music. Whether they’re struggling or conquering every new assignment, I mainly want to make sure they’re having fun and learning a new way to express themselves.
I’m looking forward to working alongside many other passionate musicians at Musicologie!
